Inspiration of the Week - Chocolate Covered Strawberries

After Kim's inspiring talk about color at our August guild meeting, we went looking for a quilt that represented some of the great color tips she passed along to us. This quilt, called Chocolate Covered Strawberries, was created by Kristy of St. Louis Folk Victorian, and is a great example of complementary colors in a quilt! Kristy says the red-nearly-chocolate hues and touches of green reminds her of that delectable treat.

What we think is just as cool is where her inspiration came from. She saw a commercial (screenshot of commercial is pictured here) and saw a quilt. That's a great eye, and we can definitely see Kristy's quilt in this!

Inspiration of the Week - Double Plus Quilt

This week, we look at a very modern, minimalist plus quilt, doubled! Emily of Quilts by Emily created this Double Plus Quilt. She used Essex linen for the background and Alexander Henry Heath for the black rows. These textured fabrics really make the plus symbols pop!

And did you notice the double pair of feet in this photo? So cute!

Emily quilted dense, straight lines. It only adds to the wonderfully soft feel of the quilt.

We can never get enough of plus quilts! You can see more about Emily's quilt here. She also created a pattern for it, in throw, twin, queen and king sizes. You can find it here. Thanks for sharing, Emily!

Inspiration of the Week - Think and Wonder

We love this fun, whimsical, sophisticated Dr. Seuss baby quilt made by Latifah of The Quilt Engineer. She took her favorite Dr. Seuss prints and paired them with neutral solids to create a sophisticated front side in a wonky log cabin pattern.

The black-white striped binding ties it all together and gives it a finished, structured feel.

We love how Latifah used so many great fabrics in this top! And on the back, she used a whimsical Green Eggs print as a fun contrast. Read more here to see what else went into it.

Thanks for sharing, Latifah!

Inspiration of the Week - Post Sewing Summit Lone Star mini quilt

If you need yet another idea for using up those scraps, try this pieced Lone Star quilt. We think it's a great use of scraps and the perfect swap gift for a modern quilter. Deb, of Trio Stitch Studio, made this mini as part of a Post Sewing Summit Swap. We love the colors and the scrappy fabrics!
